Regional Food System Assessment Complete

The Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission (CVRPC) announced that it has completed the first phase of the Regional Food System Plan--the Central Vermont Food System Assessment, complete with a wide variety of local food data for interested people and organizations in the region and beyond.

Can Vermont Grow Rice?

Farmers and scientists from throughout the region will be in Westminster on Saturday for the third annual Northeast USA Rice Conference. "We can grow rice in the Northeast but we need the support of farmers, chefs and consumers," the conference host said. "There is interest out there and this is a way we can learn from each other."

Working Lands Enterprise Investment bill approved in the Vermont Senate

The Vermont Senate gave preliminary approval to the Working Lands Enterprise Investment bill (H 496) on Friday afternoon. A final vote on the bill is expected on Monday afternoon on the Senate floor. The intent of the bill is to stimulate a concerted economic development effort on behalf of Vermont’s agriculture and forest products sectors by systematically advancing entrepreneurism, business development, and job creation.

Nine grants to Vermont firms will plow $857,542 into agricultural innovation

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Congressman Peter Welch (D) – announced Friday that grants to nine Vermont agricultural producers, totaling $857,542, will support the agricultural innovation that is helping to shape Vermont’s economic future.
