But altering books as a visual art is something more intentional - and more extreme. Cut, shredded, painted or soaked in water, a book can be turned into piece of art that often bears no resemblance to a book." Notably, "the books in the Norwich exhibit are mostly obscure titles whose subjects often provided the artists' inspiration. For example a book about snakes has been turned into series of paper squares arranged in a coil."

Cox, who has been building instruments out of his home studio in West Brattleboro since 1981, was "recognized for his service on many art boards including the Yellow Barn Music School & Festival, Brattleboro Music Center, the Arts Council of Windham County, the Creative Communities Council of Windham County and the Arts Campus Working Group. He also helped to initiate the Alliance of the Arts (AFTA) 41/2 years ago. AFTA helps to connect artists and art directors to share their ideas." At the awards ceremony, Cox commented that "creativity happens when different ideas and traditions, ways of seeing things come together in a place with enough security that they can inter-mesh, inter-react," and added that "Brattleboro is a community with enough diversity to be interesting, and enough security and respect to make real communications possible."

Orton explained, "We hope to be able to build a market, an awareness, and an increasing interest in this kind of art in Vermont so that Vermonters will want to put a piece over the fireplace, so to speak, and collectors will want to own a piece of this work, and therefore to encourage artists monetarily through success to do more cultural commentary art about the state of affairs in Vermont." Notably, "one piece from each artist will be kept in Orton's collection, and the rest will likely be auctioned. Proceeds will be given to the artists and be used to create a fund for future projects."

Sara died of sudden cardiac arrest two years ago but her life will be remembered at the Intervale in Burlington, "when the VYO will present a concert in celebration of Sara's life. Money raised at the concert will go toward the VYO's Sara London-Hinman Scholarship Fund."
